Deutsche Post DHL Group wants to become the market leader in green logistics and will expand its portfolio of green products and services to help customers achieve their own climate goals. "The decisions we make today will determine the living environment of our children in 30 years'time," says Frank Appel, CEO of Deutsche Post DHL Group.

Ambitious interim targets

Deutsche Post DHL Group's climate target for emmision-free logistics in 2050 applies both to the company's own activities and to its subcontractors. The mission is supported by four interim milestones to be achieved by the year 2025, as part of the Group's GoGreen environmental programme:

  • Globally, Deutsche Post DHL Group will increase the CO2 efficiency of its own operations and those of subcontractors by 50% compared to 2007.
  • At the local level, the Group focuses on improving people's living and living environment by offering clean transport solutions. Deutsche Post DHL Group will work with clean pick-up and delivery solutions for 70% of its own activities, for example with bicycles and electric vehicles.
  • More than 50% of the services sold will consist of green solutions, making customers' supply chain greener.
  • The Group will train and certify 80% of its employees as GoGreen specialists and actively involve them in environmental and climate protection activities. In addition, Deutsche Post DHL Group, together with its partners, plans to plant one million trees every year.

With the Environmental Program GoGreen, Deutsche Post DHL Group also supports the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Agenda lays the foundation for achieving global economic progress within earth's ecological boundaries and in harmony with social justice. Deutsche Post DHL Group's climate protection measures support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, in particular Goal 11 "Sustainable Cities and Communities" and Goal 13 "Climate Action".

Previous climate targets have been met and are ahead of schedule

The new climate objectives and activities are based on the group's experience with its own environmental programme GoGreen. The previous climate target - to improve CO2 efficiency by 30% compared to 2007 - was already achieved in 2016. Four years ahead of schedule, thanks to a wide range of measures in the fleet, buildings and logistics networks.

Climate protection with GoGreen

Deutsche Post DHL Group's GoGreen environmental programme has two basic principles: less and cleaner. "Less" is about reducing energy consumption without adjusting the energy source itself. Consumption is becoming more efficient, for example through technological innovations. "Cleaner" is about the use of green, renewable energy, such as electric vehicles for the collection and delivery of packages. The combination of both principles achieves an optimal result. Deutsche Post DHL Group also involves customers in the climate protection measures. The group has a range of standardized solutions and customized support with "GoGreen Solutions". The "Green Optimization" products include customized logistics solutions that help customers reduce emissions in their own supply chains.
