Labor shortage brings DHL to Rotterdam

To get enough qualified employees, DHL eCommerce has opened a second customer contact center in Rotterdam. In an office in the Little C neighborhood, on Rotterdam's Coolhaven, more than 40 employees maintain contact with shippers and recipients of packages. Rotterdam is a satellite of the main customer contact center in Arnhem, which employs more than 200 people. In the Arnhem area, it is difficult to get sufficient qualified staff. In the Rotterdam region, the supply is greater.

A job in a contact center is often a first step in a professional career for working students and recent graduates, and that group is well represented in Rotterdam. "The first 40 employees were indeed quickly recruited," says Customer Service Director Natasja Wientjes. She explains their quick choice for DHL by the nature of the work: "We offer a job with a lot of social interaction, internal and external, in an industry where sustainability and digitalization are high on the agenda." There are currently still a select number of vacancies.
