DHL opens climate-neutral CityHub for Central Limburg

Last Thursday saw the official opening of DHL's new Roermond CityHub. From the climate-neutral building at Schepelstraat 18 in the Oosttangent business park, all packages have been delivered for Central Limburg for several months now. The opening was previously postponed so as not to disrupt the usual peak season at the end of the year. Alderman Franssen, responsible among other things for Economy and Urban Development within the municipality of Roermond, welcomed DHL: "DHL fits the urban character of Roermond, the fact that DHL is going electric with the parcel service not only fits our sustainability ambition, but also provides a valuable economic impulse to the city."

THAT DHL IS GOING ELECTRIC WITH THE PARCEL SERVICE NOT ONLY FITS WITH OUR SUSTAINABILITY AMBITION, BUT ALSO PROVIDES A VALUABLE ECONOMIC BOOST TO THE CITY.
Alderman Franssen of the municipality of Roermond

This CityHub is the seventh climate-neutral branch DHL is opening in the Netherlands. CityHub Roermond is part of an extensive investment program of 350 million euros. This includes building 27 climate neutral CityHubs according to the highest sustainability standard (BREEAM Outstanding). DHL Roermond is also gas-free and equipped with solar panels, which are used to charge the 20 electric delivery vans. There are also 9 delivery vans running on fossil-free HVO-100 diesel. Every day about 7,500 packages are delivered to households, stores and businesses in and around Roermond, from Swalmen and Roggel to Echt and Vlodrop. At the CityHub itself, over 30 employees take care of sorting parcels and planning routes. The CityHub provides employment for over 150 employees including 125 who deliver parcels one or more days a week. In previous months, similar sustainable branches opened in Almere, Zoetermeer, Geleen, Breda, Nijmegen and Tilburg. Soon, DHL will also open CityHubs in Leeuwarden, Amsterdam, Aalsmeer and Groningen. The remaining locations will follow later in 2023 and 2024.

The DHL CityHub has a service point where packages can be picked up and dropped off. Also, the CityHub is always looking for enthusiastic delivery drivers with driving license who would like to work a few hours a week.
