Utrecht, March 22, 2024 - Today a DHL Locker has been installed at Stadion De Oude Meerdijk, home to the first division club FC Emmen. This locker allows supporters and local residents to send and collect packages at any time.
DHL is currently installing hundreds of lockers, many of which are appearing at sports clubs. These locations are proving to be popular and easily accessible. Several other professional football clubs preceded FC Emmen with a locker at their stadium. Additionally, DHL is the logistics partner of the national women's teams of hockey, football, handball, and volleyball. Numerous amateur clubs behind them would like to see a locker installed at their facility. The club receives compensation for each package in the locker.

The new service at Sportpark Meerdijk fits well with the role FC Emmen plays in the area, according to commercial manager and former FC Emmen player Guus de Vries. "Our location between the neighborhoods of Angelslo and Barger-Osterveld is centrally located and allows us to add something for supporters and local residents. It fits very well with the central position that we as a club have within our environment."
With a unique retrieval code, the locker only opens for the recipient of the specific package. This can be done at any time after receiving the code. Returning or sending packages is just as easy.
More and more people are using delivery to a service point or locker as an alternative to home delivery. In a year's time, usage has increased by 40%. Users cite flexibility, convenience, and sustainability as advantages. This locker can also be set as the default delivery option in the My DHL app, which has been downloaded 5 million times.
