HEMA and DHL will open a DHL parcel point in more than 250 branches on Friday 22 January to relieve the increasing pressure on the parcel service. Since the lockdown, an extreme amount of online orders have been made, which means that more parcel points are also needed to cope with the increased demand. HEMA and DHL have been working together for a long time to bring the online deliveries to the customer.
At the moment, 250 DHL parcel points are being realised in HEMA stores that will open next Friday. According to DHL, the extra parcel points will help to ensure that home deliveries run smoothly in the coming months. In addition to the 250 stores that will be accessible as a parcel point from next Friday, it is expected that more HEMA branches will be connected to this initiative in the coming weeks. HEMA has a total of 550 stores in the Netherlands.
Only DHL parcels can be picked up or returned at the parcel points. The HEMA branches are not accessible during the lockdown to buy other items. HEMA and DHL intend to continue the service in the stores when the stores are open again.
Spokesperson HEMA: "HEMA and many other retailers are working overtime when it comes to online orders and that inevitably leads to extra pressure on home deliveries. For retailers, this online turnover is currently of vital importance and that is why we are happy to help increase the capacity of the delivery services. In this way, consumers can continue to order their products and we help prevent the delivery system from becoming overloaded."
DHL: DHL Parcel currently delivers more than 1 million parcels per day in the Netherlands and is therefore crucial as a company to keep society running as well as possible. Service points are also a crucial part of this. The easily accessible and recognisable HEMA branches, spread throughout the Netherlands, are a powerful addition to this.
For all HEMA branches, the parcel points are open from Monday to Saturday from 09.00 – 17.00 hours. There is a mask obligation and visitors are asked to keep sufficient distance.
